My first game? Can it be done?

Yo yo yo,

I'm Michael (MJ), an apsiring (actually made it now!?) hobbyist gamedev living in the moment, one git-commit at time. I've been hacking away at game prototypes for about 5 years now. I've dug myself out of Tutorial Hell, I've dabbled in a few engines (love my Godot), and I've now committed myself to the culture with this first Devlog and release of a my WIP game -- DARK STAR SURVIVORS. It's an early build, and I anticipate around 3-6 months more of development.

I've been developing this in C with Raylib, because I wanted to learn more lower-level programming, memory management so that I can one day understand how other engines work, so that if I'm using them off the shelf, I can tweak them if I need to. It's also been really rewarding and fun. I highly recommend to other aspiring developers out there who have a penchant for diving into the deep-end to not be scared and try your hand at a lower-level language. It's not so bad down here (especially when using libraries like SDL or Raylib).

A little more about me - I'm currently on parental leave with a 2 month old, and hoping to one day make games for my family, and if I'm lucky enough, a large enough audience which can support that family! I live in Sydney, Australia with my wife, dog (Noamy) and little one Teddy. I've always loved video games, and building things, and this hobby over the past five years has been so fulfilling!

I'll try to post here on more regular updates!

Cheers,

MJ
